What.

Increasingly, more attention is paid to the acceptance of Transgenders. These people are making a shift in their identity, namely, they are born in the wrong body. When they are a woman, they want to be a man and the other way around. This change is very heavy because of all the operations and hormones. But the result is fantastic! Finally, they can become who they wanted to be. Therefore, I see the acceptance of this group as a micro trend that comes up. The subject is finally made negotiable. People want to accept them because in the western world we want freedom and tolerance. Besides, we want to talk about these subjects. So everyone has to be free to be who they want to be. (Keuzenkamp, 2013) But is this only about the separation between man and woman? Or could you be as well a woman and a man? I've found three signals which support this trend.

Where.

First of al, there is a new program released in the Netherlands. It's called ‘Geslacht!' and it's about intersexuality and the blurring differences between men and women. The program is presented by Ryanne van Dorst (a.k.a. Elle Bandita). On doctor's advice, it was decided to make a girl of her using hormones and surgery. But she doesn't feel like a real girl. She rather calls herself a hermaphrodite, meaning that you have both males as female characteristics. This is very normal for her, but for others, it's a taboo. Ryanne wants to break this taboo. She hopes to inspire people using her own story and she wants to make it clear that's not a shame to be a hermaphrodite. However, the need for intersex life be facilitated and they should be accepted. Hopefully, this program helps them with this. (Dongen, 2017)

Secondly, you see that transgenders besides made negotiable on TV, even fashion and makeup industry pay more attention to them. The make-up brand L'Oreal Paris shows a transgender model in its new commercial: Hari Nef. The commercial is about their new product "The true match foundation". L'oreal wants to celebrate beauty and diversity with this product. Next, to a transgender model, they show several models with different skin colors and also a male model. L'Oreal want to inspire other make-up brands. (Laffite, 2017) (Redactie Trendalert, 2017)

In addition to fashion and make-up brands, National Geographic also leaves adorn their cover by a transgender model. This primarily concerns the 9-year-old Avery Jackson and she is not just the first transgender model on the cover. Together with her parents, she is in a battle for the LGBT community for many years. The issue of National Geographic in January was dedicated to the gender revolution. Therefore, it is a good thing that this kind of magazines makes the subject discussable. (Wijnen, 2016)

Finally, the topic of transgender people will not only made negotiable on television, the fashion industry, makeup industry and on magazine covers. The politics will interfere with transgenders too. They want to protect them from discrimination. Therefore, like the Dutch Ministers, Vera Bergkamp from D66, Keklik Yücel of PVDA and Liesbeth van Tongeren of Groen Links. In discrimination, protection cannot decide whether people fit into the stand male/ female image. With this law, politicians want to stand on the side of transgenders. They also hope that people will understand them and that they won't discriminate them. Now state equality namely discrimination based on sex, heterosexual or homosexual orientation mentioned in the Act. Politicians want to add here the terms sexual characteristics, gender identity and gender expression to. Hopefully, this will improve the situation of many transgenders. (Schut, 2017)

Why.

In Social and Cultural terms, the Dutch people are reasonably positive about Transgenders. A study by the Social and Cultural Planning Office shows that only 10% of the people are negative about this group. But many people find the behavior of the transgender a bit unusual. At the first meeting, most people want to know what gender you are. But in Europe are several views on transgender people. In Malta, the government announced improved guidelines to schools to improve the treatment of transgender and intersex children. Latvia did the same. 91% of the Dutch think that transgenders are free to live their life in their own way. 6 to 7% would sever the relationship with a transgender if they know that he/she is transgender, but 76% won't. (Kuyper, 2016) In the Netherlands also 78% have transgender friends. (Kuyper S. K., 2013)

When.

In the future, I hope the whole world will accept transgenders. Now already many people, magazines, companies, fashion- and makeup brands, politics, and television programs are accepting them. In fifty years transgenders are living a good and fearless life. They can do what they want, say what they want and be who they want to be. I accept them like they are.
